For most factions the later units are definitely upgrades, sometimes they give up melee attack/def but they gain armor and especially weapon strength. So I haven't actually played a campaign outside testing and passing turns in quite a while now, well over a year so I haven't played Nicaea since their massive roster revamp in January. The potential is there, but the mod isn't there. The 'wow' factor will leave an impression on your first campaign, but afterwards you'll find it's not the greatest total war mod of all time. It doesn't know how to build an army and will spam levies, and since every city is walled it hides behind its walls until you take all its cities and it has no hidey-walls left. The AI is the real killer of 1212's campaign. Very poorly balanced buildings that make it difficult to balance public order and income, especially for islamic factions. Sparse research trees with techs that take 10-20 turns each to research as padding for how few there are I hope you like chasing armies that won't fight you.ĪI that is inept at recruiting armies and managing the 1 city per province system and generally poses little to no threat throughout the campaign even on L/VH with the hardcore option 2 1/2 years after release the campaign is still in a poor state with some basic issues that have been around since first release:īroken agents that can't perform actions like block army. Then you play campaign and the dream ends. The units are beautiful and the volume of them is overwhelming at first. If you are playing custom battles and MP battles, then I think 1212 is one of the best mods you can play.
